Our 24-Day Advanced Close Protection, Firearms & CQB Program combines the following courses:

1) Level 3 Close Protection Operative Course (7 UNITS)

This is the core course for anyone who wants to work professionally as a Close Protection Operative (CPO). It builds essential skills such as threat assessment, risk management, defensive tactics, planning, physical intervention and operational awareness to protect clients safely and effectively in real-world environments.

Upon completion, learners are equipped with the competence to operate as a close protection operative within the private security industry and meet recognised industry standards, including SIA compliance in the UK.

2) Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work

This course provides students with the skills and confidence to respond to medical emergencies encountered during protection operations. It teaches essential first-aid techniques, casualty care and life-saving procedures that are valuable both onsite and in hostile environments.

This qualification is internationally recognised and complements all close protection roles.

3) Level 4 Hostile Environment Close Protection Operative

This advanced course focuses on operating in high-risk and hostile environments. It combines tactical planning with firearms and operational skills used by private military contractors and security professionals in conflict zones.

Training covers strategic movement, threat planning and survival principles that elevate a trainee’s capability beyond standard protection roles.

4) Tactical Firearms Training (Level 1, 2 & 3)

UCP Group’s firearms courses are widely regarded as some of the most comprehensive in the world and are trusted by governments, military and security professionals globally.

Courses start with safe firearms handling and basic marksmanship, progressing up through tactical weapon use, situational engagement and live-fire exercises. Training includes pistol, rifle, carbine and specialised applications depending on level and experience.

5) Level 1 Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Training

This programme teaches advanced techniques for close-range combat and security engagement in confined or urban spaces. Students learn movement tactics, team coordination, firearm control and decision-making drills specifically designed for high-pressure operational environments.

CQB skills are essential for professionals who operate in high-risk environments, urban protection duties or security tasks requiring rapid, precise responses.

6) Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) – Medic Training

Included free of charge with some packages, this medic course focuses on battlefield-level trauma care skills used by special operations medical personnel. Students learn to assess, stabilise and treat life-threatening injuries under pressure—an indispensable skill for protection operatives in hostile or remote environments.

  • Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work
  • Level 4 Hostile Environment Close Protection Operative

What is Close Protection?

Close protection, commonly known as bodyguarding, involves safeguarding a client—referred to as the principal—from potential harm, threats, or unwanted attention. The role of a Close Protection Operative (CPO) goes beyond physical security and often includes supporting the principal in a variety of day-to-day situations.

Protecting a single individual may require discreet, close-range protection, while assignments involving families or larger groups demand a more complex approach. These operations typically involve team-based planning, coordination, and execution, requiring strong communication, situational awareness, and operational discipline to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Can Anyone Become a Close Protection Officer?

Close protection officers typically need to be fairly in shape as most close protection training courses can be quite physically demanding. In the job, if you’re following your client around you need to be able to keep up without showing any signs of exertion – and still remain ready to protect clients at a moment’s notice.

What is Close Protection?

Close protection is also known as being a bodyguard. This typically involves working to protect a client (known as a principle) from any harm or attention that may come their way. A CPO position where you’re tasked with protecting one person often involves assisting the client in a variety of manners that aren’t strictly related to security, but working to protect larger groups – for example, a family – means a much bigger undertaking that requires working as part of a team.

Do bodyguards have to be big?

Bodyguards do not have to be large or physically intimidating to do their job. Although some clients may have a preference for appearance, the main thing that keeps a client safe is the knowledge and training a close protection officer carries with you.

How Much Does Close Protection Pay?

The average starting rate for close protection operatives new to the industry is $100-$200 per day. Eventually, this goes up to $200-$400 per day once you have the expected experience to earn this. Close protection team leaders can then earn up to $500-$600 daily.

Can I apply to this course if I have no prior police or military experience?

Yes, you can apply. Police and military experience is not a pre-requisite. All levels are welcome.

Do you offer jobs?

Yes, we have job opportunities for our best candidates within the UCP Group. Nevertheless, we do not guarantee a job because you apply for one of our course.
